Ease Tax Day Dread with Library Resources

Originally published in the Chillicothe Gazette on April 5, 2026

Spring is finally here. Flowers are blooming, the sun is shining and taxes are due. Wait, what?

It turns out there is more going on in April than egg hunts and Earth Gathering. However, Tax Day is more of a deadline than a celebration. Wednesday, April 15th is the last day to file taxes and if you owe any money, that is the deadline for payment as well. Unfortunately, you cannot pay in chocolate coins.

I am very lucky there is someone in my life who is punctual and good at paperwork. It’s not me. If I were in charge of my taxes, I’d be up late on the last night stress eating chocolate chip cookies and being mean to myself because of my poor time management skills.

While the library does not have chocolate chip cookies and we cannot do your taxes for you, we can still help. The following resources are here to get you through this tax season and the seasons to come:

Tax Forms – We have both Ohio and Federal forms available to pick up at all of our locations. However, if we don’t have the forms you need, we can print them for you. The first 10 tax-related pages are free.

Federal Instruction Books – Ohio no longer sends out hard copy instructions for State Taxes, but we do offer Federal Instruction Books while supplies last. If you need some Ohio form help, we are happy to print select instruction pages as needed.

Udemy Digital Courses – This eResource offers a variety of courses on hundreds of different subjects. But if you’re looking to improve your Federal Tax understanding and preparation abilities, look no further. Courses like Tax Strategy: Financial Planning for Beginners and Intro to Business Taxation are available immediately when you sign in with your library card.

United Way’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program – Though the deadline to use their free tax preparation service has passed for 2026, families making less than $69,000 a year should keep them in mind for 2027. This incredible service allows you to meet with a volunteer and have your taxes done by appointment, free of charge.
