With the cost of products and services on the rise, there’s never been a better time to take advantage of your community’s free resources. The public library is a great place to start when thinking of things that are free and accessible. If you don’t have a library card yet, what are you waiting for?
September is Library Card Sign-Up Month—a national campaign from the American Library Association that encourages everyone to get a library card. And the best part? It’s completely free! This month, we’re adding some extra fun: refer your friends or family! Stop by any branch to pick up a Referral Card, and if someone you share it with signs up for their own library card, you’ll both be entered to win prizes at the end of the month.
How can you get a library card?
- Stop into any of our seven library branches and ask a library staff member to assist. We have several card designs to pick from. All you need is an ID with your current information on it. If under 18, a guardian will need to be present with their information.
- You can sign up for a digital card right on our website! This will get you access to most of our digital resources right away. The next time you visit one of our libraries, we can help you update it to a full access card.
What can I use my library card for?
- Stream the KPop Demon Hunters soundtrack on repeat on hoopla.
- Check out an inflatable paddle board from our Beyond Books collection and take a float on Ross Lake.
- Use your library card to check out the OHIO Chillicothe collection at Quinn Library while grabbing a pumpkin spiced latte at The Coffee Hub.
- Access Chilton Auto Repair Library online and find out which parts are needed for your car.
- Place a hold on the latest Superman movie and send to one of our BookHives to pick up at your convenience (24/7 access!).
- Check out an Adventure Pass to Adena Mansion and Gardens before the end of the season (October 26) and enjoy the grounds during the fall season.
These are just a couple of examples of the thousands of resources and materials available for free, all with a library card!
