Hi! My name is Bearton Stevenson, but you can call me Bert. I am a bear and I work at the library.
You may be thinking, “Bears don’t work places!” And you would be right. Most bears only work on gathering food or building their dens. But, I love the library (and reading) so much that the library offered to make me a Library Ambassador! That’s a fancy way of saying that I get to spend my time making sure people love the library (and reading) as much as I do!
Now, you may also be thinking, “Bears can’t read!” However, I am proof that finding the right book can make a reader out of anyone! I used to think I didn’t like to read and that I wasn’t very good at it. Then, I picked up Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus! by Mo Willems and laughed so hard that honey came out of my nose.
That part was painful, but totally worth it.
After I read all the Pigeon books I could find, I started reading other books, too! In fact, I read so many that the nice people at the library asked me to share one of my favorites each month, with you.

So, for my very first Bert’s Book Pick, I am recommending the book Papilio by Ben Clanton, Corey R. Tabor, and Andy Chou Musser.
In it, we follow Papilio, a hilarious little caterpillar on her journey of growing up. My butterfly friends say it’s pretty accurate, so double recommendation! And Ben Clanton is the creator of Narwhal and Jelly, which is also an awesome series. Papilio learns that even though growing up can be tricky, there is always something new and exciting to learn.
I hope you like the book as much as I did and I hope to see you soon at the library!
Your friend,
Bert
