The days are getting longer, the sun is making more regular appearances, and the ground is opening up after the winter’s rain and snow. Pretty soon, the soil here in Growing Zone 6B will be ready to receive those magical seeds. And then, we’ll be on our way to fresh tomatoes, peppers, beans and cukes, and masses of pretty flowers to nourish our souls and pollinators alike.
To get us even more excited about spring, the library has re-stocked the highly popular Seed Library, available at all library locations and also on the Bee Mobile Library. The Seed Library is available between the beginning of March and the end of August each year and includes packets of vegetables, herbs and flowers.
You can check out seeds at the library?! That’s right, but you don’t necessarily have to “return” this library material. Any patron can visit the library and take home 5 packs of seeds (per visit), totally free of charge. Hopefully you’ll grow some awesome crops, and at the end of the season, you can save a few seeds and return them to the CRCPL Seed Library to keep the love growing and going!
This year, the library was lucky to obtain seeds from some of the country’s top seed vendors. Thanks to these folks, who were kind enough to donate packets to our local endeavor:
Donations are greatly needed to keep the Seed Library flourishing all season long. If you have some seeds lying around that you don’t need, drop them off to us at any library location. If you have connections to a hardware store or garden center, and you would like to contribute in a greater capacity, reach out to CRCPL Access Director Jenn Slone at 740-702-4103 or jslone@crcpl.org.
